Harvest Festival

This is by far the best fall festival we've been to.  We went 2 years ago but weren't able to go last year because it was pouring down rain.  We had pretty perfect weather.  It was in the low 70's with a little wind.  Not bad.  However, by the time we left it was super windy and there were some ominous clouds lurking nearby just waiting to dump.  Luckily we escaped before anything like that happened.

The festival is held at the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood, Maryland.  It is a historic farm site and modern farming activity center.  There is plenty for the kids to see and do.  They learn all about how a farm worked in the past and how one works today.  Activities included pumpkin painting, scarecrow making, story telling and music, threshing and bailing hay, corn shelling, canning and pickling, corn cob dolls, face painting, pygmy goats, chickens and garden play, corn grinding, egg finding, hay play, spool knitting, candle dipping, chestnut and pumpkin seed roasting, a corn maze and more!  You couldn't possibly see and do everything on the 455 acre farm with little ones but we saw plenty and everyone was ready for a nap when all was said and done, including me!

Reagan got to churn the cream to make butter!

Hayride around the farm with Jodi & Lydia

Daddy & Reagan

Kai and Reagan made it all the way through the maze while Jodi and I made our escape early on.

Oink, oink!

The tastiest pumpkin seeds I've ever had!  A little Worcestershire sauce & garlic salt.  Nom...nom...

Candle making. Hot wax, water, repeat about a thousand times!

Corn shelling

Italian ice?  Totally part of a farm experience, right?

Old time washboard.  He liked it.  Probably wouldn't like to do it every day though.

Love Fall!
