Special Helpers

As I've mentioned before, I definitely don't have a green thumb.  Somehow that green thumb gene skipped right over me.  Kai's grandpa, however, has a green thumb and has the most amazing garden.  He grows everything from asparagus to tomatoes and everything in between.  Every summer when we visit he takes the boys in the garden and allows them to pick vegetables that are ready and chats with them about the work he does in the garden.  I love to sit behind the camera and observe the excitement they feel when picking fresh veggies from the garden.

Almost exactly two years ago Grandpa and Reagan spent time picking corn and carrots together.  We munched on the fresh carrots for snack and took the corn home for dinner.  Months later Reagan saw carrots in the crisper in the refrigerator and shouted out "Just like the ones in Grandpa's garden!"  I was surprised to learn Reagan made the connection between the carrots in the garden and the ones in the crisper.  He was beginning to make his own memories and connections.  He remembered his experience with Grandpa in the garden.  Time spent with his grandparents has made quite an impression on him.

Say a little prayer for Grandpa as he his having some medical procedures done today to improve his heart health.

This year we get to be really proud of the little plants we've kept alive on our teeny tiny back deck.  Thanks to Reagan and Camp we have a healthy tomato plant & basil plant!
