A few weeks ago Kai got to take a trip for work to visit a mine in West Virginia. This was the first time in a really long time that he was gone and I was alone with the boys overnight. I'm a pretty big chicken when it comes to stuff like this. I do fine, but I don't generally sleep well. Luckily it was only overnight so I didn't have to endure too long without him.
It was pretty exciting for Kai and very interesting. He had to be fitted for all his gear weeks in advance. His mine suit was specifically made for him, new boots and all! It's pretty amazing all the gear these guys put on every day to work in the mines. It definitely isn't an easy job! He entered in Southwest Pennsylvania, but the majority of the mine is in West Virginia. They went down 900 feet underground and then traveled 5 miles to get to the opposite end of the mine.
It's hard to tell, but Kai is second in from the left. He has promised to bring home more pictures from his trip!
